Occurred to me I should do this part.  Or Jenifer would say I should, which is good enough for me.

Not a poet, except my first work here was a short poem which came out all in a rush as I watched an interview with Robert Bly and though about my father.  I think I aspire to historical novels, only I don't actually write any, so it may be my aspirations are inaccurate.

I am a year older than Father Luke and also a CA native but the rest of the story is mine alone.  I write a lot and it is mostly crap because it is mostly about me and my never-ending midlife crisis.  My next stage of development is to crawl out of my head and write stuff that isn't so relentlessly self-absorbed.  I have a career-like job and a wife (today anyway) and two sons who legally speaking are adults and actually act the part better than I do.  I am getting rather tired of trying to be "successful" at corporate life, and I admire people who have managed to avoid it and are doing something they love.

I love to create and my credentials as a writer are thus threatened by the distractions of music, photography, and that weird mixture of engineering and passion that results in strange shit appearing at Burning Man.  If I could see my kids' college and wife's house paid for, I would happily "retire" and get lost in that community.  Alas, I have a lot of excuses.

Bullshitting makes for a good writer, wouldn't you say, Olaf?

Welcome, dogworm. I remember writing about my crap, and finding my voice. I
contribute regularly to the FDRAG newsletter -- the Florida Death Row Advocacy
Newsletter. It's a newsletter formed by people who see the humanness of prisoners on
death row in Florida, and advocate humane conditions -- and having written to a
prisoner on death row for years, I was amazed at how much of what I believe is
mundane, and ordinary are actually miracles. I take a lot for granted... walking to
the store, watching clouds, feeling the rain on my face...

There may be some controversy about "voice", but once having heard your own voice,
and being enthralled by it, you will surely find time to write, and read, and be
enchanted by it all. I hope Mary serves some small step in that long journey.

And I wish you well.

As always, we'll allow your drunken intuition, Olaf, as we love you.

And as for dogworm, thanks for coming to Mary.  And thanks for participating.  We are glad you are here.

Welcome

As for death row, I don't see how there is a place for that in the modern world. Also why does the religious right seem to offer such strong support for it? I'm sure on a religious level it interferes with the big G's ten steps to heaven?

I have very strong opinions on the death penalty, but it wasn't you who brought that up, so hello dogworm, hope you enjoy it here.
