4 months in Ireland, and as of yet still no work. I have developed many a house skill and can now bake a half decent victoria sponge. Tommorow I am to be interviewed for a job similar to the one I did in England. Wish me luck, or dont, the likelyhood is it shall not matter. If the face fits and the answers please, then hopefully there shall be success. I have missed working, for the first few weeks it was grand, but now, the monotony of day has slowed my senses. I am nervous about tommorow, and have hardly prepared at all, but this has brought me luck before, i am pretty good at high pressure situations, so we shall see.

I will let you know the outcome

Best Regards

Good luck!

i really hope you get it.

also, on a side note,

if you go to google and search for "eat me delicious cookie topped brownies" (should be the first link)

these brownies are amazing, though a bit time intensive, about an hour to make by hand, then an hour to cook. (though i generally swirl the cookie batter through, rather than layer it on top)

they'd make awesome celebratory food! (that's assuming you enjoy baking/cooking. i find it really theraputic)

Thanks for the link i shall take a look.

And yes i do love cooking, my girlfriend cooks out with complete disdain, (you should see her dicing the chicken) and although i dare not tell her, the taste reflects this- only kidding, about the taste that is. From an early age i have cooked, my mother taught all my brothers when we was young, she was a teacher, and rarely got home till about 6.30pm, by teaching three boys to cook, it three days of having a meal cooked for her- my speciality was lamb oregano with spinach rice, sounds complicated but is really piss easy.

i too find it theraputic, writing and cooking are great ways to remove the mind from the daily grind.

thanks for the good luck wish.

best regards

Somehow, with you, I am inclined to view this as a plain statement of fact.

Employed or not y'all write well enough to be worth reading.

You moved to Ireland Vincent? Where abouts?

I wish you success mate! Everyone seem to be struggling with economic issues at the moment - accept maybe the Bankers!

My signature dish is Lasagne by the way...Oh and lemon drizzle cake!

Hi Roger

Yes, i moved to Ireland to start a new life for my two young boys. I moved to Milford which is in the Republic of Ireland, North West of Ireland, its about an hour from Londonderry.
Its quiet and remote, but we have lots of land, and thats good for the kids. I have even started growing herbs, i thought that was for my retirement! Life is good here, little work is available, due to our location, and the work i do.

Lemon Drizzle Cake, i read a recipe for it by the Hairy Bikers... have you heard of them? i i was thinking about giving it a go for my girlfriends birthday as she loves lemon and loves cake, so should be a success.

The interview went well, I came out feeling confident, but have not recieved any news as of yet.

Regards

Good luck Vincent, I'll keep my fingers (which aren't bitten by mosquitos) crossed for you.

I have a six month break from work in which I'll/we'll be living off my girlfriends part-time wage. I see myself as a reluctant participant when it comes to work, so I can't say I'm missing it. I'm enjoying the sunshine of Gozo (Malta) and learning about the idiosyncratic ways of its inhabitants. We're only two weeks in though so I may be visiting your clinic in Ireland by the end of the six months!

Hi Pete

Thanks mate. Glad you are enjoying Malta, I've only been there once, and was unforunate to visit a rather drap tourist spot, did not think much of it at all, but my gilfriend has been many a time before we met, and before she had the boys, and she enjoyed it. How did you swing the work thing? have they kept your position open for when you return?

i too am living of my girls wage, i am finding it difficult, if only for the fact that she puts restrictions on my ciggaratte and alcohol consumption.

I could also do with a little sun, Ireland, is quite majestic, and very very green, which is nice, but there is a reason for this green, and that's rain, rain rain, even when its clear blue skies, and the sun is out, it rains. But there is something nice in that, on Saturday i saw a complete rainbow, but as you might have guessed, there was no pot of gold.

Good to hear from yout Pete

Even his notes are poetic!

I admire you both totally..... I know only two well what courage it takes to break free of the hum drum rat race wage-mortgage-job-work-mortgage-job!!!

I've read a couple of books by John McGahern who lived near Roscommon. He wrote a book called 'The Barracks that describes that part of the world amazingly.

And lemon Drizzle cake:

bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4942/lemon-drizzle-cake

That's easy to make. Make sure you use fresh lemons and a non-stick loaf tin..... Oh I'm so much in touch with my feminine side....

Yeah! Well done Vincent. So there are people with alcohol problems in Ireland?  Wink

My work are holding my position for six months, which makes me sound important, but in fact means the complete opposite! I don't ever want to go back to writing letters to bitter old farts, so I plan to find a new direction.
I remember a Calexico album cover which had a character with a line that just said, "I'll sell drugs before I work there again". That line encapsulates my thoughts.

Ahh, poor Duke. Home alone, day after day. Waiting so patiently. Waiting to hear the familiar tread towards the door. That special way the key turns in the lock.

Vinnie!! Woof!! WOOF!  Arrooooo!
